Choosing the best food for baby can be puzzling sometimes. This is a concern for new parents facing such a situation. Which one is better? Organic foods or natural foods? Is there any different at all? The differences are quite significant!

Natural Foods
Basically, when we talk about “natural food”, is it as nutritious and convenient as organic food? Unfortunately, natural does not always imply organic, and there are no guarantees. Natural foods are frequently used to describe foods that have undergone limited processing. Nevertheless, neither the FDA nor the USDA have rules or regulations in place for products labelled "natural" in the United States. By that, food manufacturers frequently use the term "natural" to describe foods that contain highly processed ingredients.

Organic Foods

Now, let’s talk about organic. Organic is the most heavily regulated food system. The term 'organic' means a minimum of 95% of organic ingredients in the product. "100% organic" means all ingredients are organic ingredients. Through certification organizations, the USDA governs the use of the terms "organic" and "100 organic". It assurances no toxic synthetic pesticides, toxic synthetic herbicides, or chemical NPK fertilizers are used in production, and no antibiotics or growth hormones are given to animals.

In contrast to natural and other eco-labeling claims, only organics provides government-supported assurances that products are grown and processed without the use of toxic chemicals. With the “organic” certification on the label, it ensures that you are purchasing food that has not been interfered with or preserved in any way.

Why are some parents willing to spend more money on organic baby food? It is because strict measures for organic foods are in place while not strict rules and regulation are required on natural foods. The “natural” label can be used without restrictions due to paucity of sufficient guidelines and rules while “organic” label cannot be used freely. To use “organic” label, the manufacturer must comply with a strict set of government rules and regulations.

If you ever think that organic foods are expensive, you are wrong! You know what they always say? You are what you eat. So, eat organic foods. If your baby’s health is at stake, a little extra is worth it. The healthier, the better!
